Position: Language and Cross-Culture Coordinator (LCC)
Supervisor:Director of Programming and Training (DPT)

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the direct supervision of the Training Manager (TM), the LCC is primarily responsible for assisting in
development, management and implementation of the Language and Cross Culture Training for Peace Corps
Cameroon. During the Pre-service and In-service Training Cycles (PST/IST), the LCC will serve as the full-time
Language Trainer Supervisor.
The LCC may be required to live outside of Yaounde for the duration of PST (up to 12 weeks), and will be required to
travel as needed to support training events or other Peace Corps (PC) needs. The LCC may need to travel
internationally to trainings provided to Peace Corps staff. The LCC may also be required to work outside of, or in
addition to, normally scheduled hours to support training events and other needs.
The TM will have the following roles and responsibilities:
Language & Cross Culture 60%
Supervision 20%
Safety and Security 20%

Language:
Design and implement Pre-Service Training (PST) language programs for trainees
Organize and coordinate the language component of the PST Training and integrate it into the overall training
design
Develop and/or coordinate the development of language curricula, scope and schedule
Manage the language programs and develop lessons and sessions plans (complete with learning objectivies)
Do need assessments for the language needs of Volunteers
Evaluate Trainees’ progress in line with Peace Corps assessment tools
Coordinate and supervise language testing and conduct language interviews
Observe classes of language instructors and give feedback on their teaching / facilitation
Contact guest speakers and arrange sessions
Organize and support PCV language needs beyond PST (i.e assist PCVs with finding and communicating with
tutors and language informants)
Design and conduct workshops for both new and experienced language instructors before and during PST
Develop and/or coordinate the language learning materials for PST and other training events
Develop and/or coordinate the development of materials for ongoing language learning
Ensure ongoing revision of language materials
Design a system to evaluate learner’s progress and the effectiveness of the language learning program
Train language trainers and other training staff in adult learning theories
Use adult learning methodologies in all training sessions.
Facilitate TOTs for language trainers
Cross-culture

Explain Language and cross-cultural trainers duties and responsibilities
Select, lead, supervise, evaluate and assess the language and cross-cultural trainers.
Organize and provide evaluative feedback to trainees on progress in language and cross-cultural learning
Design a needs assessments to analyze learners’ needs
Evaluate Trainees progress; coordinate and supervise language testing and conduct language interviews
Observe classes of language instructors and give feedback on their teaching
Design a system to evaluate learner’s progress and the effectiveness of the language and cross-cultural learning
program.
Prepare and submit to the Training Manager a written evaluation for the language trainers at the end of each PST


Safety and Security: 20%
 Addresses Volunteer safety and security by adhering to Peace Corps site development policies and procedures.
 Identifies and communicates Volunteer safety and security concerns and issues to the Training Manager, Safety
and Security Manager (SSM) and relevant staff.
 Assists TM and SSM to ensure that prospective training sites meet established programmatic and safety/security
criteria (e.g., safe housing, a clearly defined assignment with an organization that shows real interest in working
with a Volunteer, etc.).
 Monitors Trainees’ and Volunteers compliance with Peace Corps policies, especially related to safety and
security.
 Knowledgeable and supportive of Peace Corps safety and security policies and procedures, including the timely
reporting of suspicious incidents, persons or articles.
 Serve as Duty Officer as needed

Occasional Money Holder
The LCC may be required to courier cash and/or purchase orders to various vendors who furnish supplies and/or
services to training sites, or other locations as directed by the Contracting Officer. The LCC may also be required to
courier cash to PC Trainees or Volunteers. The LCC will not be functioning as a procurement or disbursing official
but will only be acting as an intermediary between the Contracting or Disbursing Officer and the recipient. In the case
of dealing with vendors, the LCC will not exercise any procurement discretion concerning the supplies or services to
be purchased or the cost limits of these purchases; these will be determined by the Contracting Officer.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: University Bachelor’s degree in Education, or related subject.
Prior Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, preferably with American or other
international non-governmental organizations, and preferably organizations that achieve their mission through
volunteerism. Related work experience to include: supervisory / leadership, designing and implementing training for
groups, delivery of language learning models, monitoring and evaluation, managing volunteers or staff, training
session design and delivery. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in supervising or coordinating staff.
Language Proficiency: Fluency in both English and French. Excellent written and oral skills in English and French.

 Skill as a trainer, facilitator, and mentor in a cross-cultural setting

Skill and ability to deal with personnel management issues: recruitment, training, evaluation, and
development and leadership of a team or group.
Skill in training events management
Proficiency in use of the internet and with Microsoft programs: Outlook (email), Excel, PowerPoint.
Word, etc.
Ability to work successfully within a multi-cultural office.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, conflict management skills, diplomacy and tact with staff,
Volunteers, Trainees, community members and members of government.
Ability to work independently and proactively.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and a strong sense of integrity.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A strong knowledge of Peace Corps, its mission, and its approach to development.
Highly organized, analytical, logistics oriented, and professional with an ability to successfully network on behalf of
the Program.
