POSITION DESCRIPTIONUnder the direct supervision of the Training Manager (TM), the LCC is primarily responsible for assisting indevelopment, management and implementation of the Language and Cross Culture Training for Peace CorpsCameroon. During the Pre-service and In-service Training Cycles (PST/IST), the LCC will serve as the full-timeLanguage Trainer Supervisor.The LCC may be required to live outside of Yaounde for the duration of PST (up to 12 weeks), and will be required totravel as needed to support training events or other Peace Corps (PC) needs. The LCC may need to travelinternationally to trainings provided to Peace Corps staff. The LCC may also be required to work outside of, or inaddition to, normally scheduled hours to support training events and other needs.The TM will have the following roles and responsibilities:Language & Cross Culture 60%Supervision 20%Safety and Security 20%
Language:Design and implement Pre-Service Training (PST) language programs for traineesOrganize and coordinate the language component of the PST Training and integrate it into the overall trainingdesignDevelop and/or coordinate the development of language curricula, scope and scheduleManage the language programs and develop lessons and sessions plans (complete with learning objectivies)Do need assessments for the language needs of VolunteersEvaluate Trainees’ progress in line with Peace Corps assessment toolsCoordinate and supervise language testing and conduct language interviewsObserve classes of language instructors and give feedback on their teaching / facilitationContact guest speakers and arrange sessionsOrganize and support PCV language needs beyond PST (i.e assist PCVs with finding and communicating withtutors and language informants)Design and conduct workshops for both new and experienced language instructors before and during PSTDevelop and/or coordinate the language learning materials for PST and other training eventsDevelop and/or coordinate the development of materials for ongoing language learningEnsure ongoing revision of language materialsDesign a system to evaluate learner’s progress and the effectiveness of the language learning programTrain language trainers and other training staff in adult learning theoriesUse adult learning methodologies in all training sessions.Facilitate TOTs for language trainersCross-cultureDesign and implement Pre-Service Training (PST) cross-culture programs for traineesOrganize and coordinate the cross-culture component of the PST Training and integrate it into the overall trainingdesignDevelop and/or coordinate the development of cross-culture curricula, scope and scheduleManage the cross-culture programs and develop lessons and sessions plansDo need assessments for the cross-culture needs of VolunteersDevelop and/or coordinate the cross-culture learning materials for PSTPeace Corps CameroonPersonal Service Contract Statement of WorkDevelop and/or coordinate the development of materials for ongoing cross-culture learningEnsure ongoing revision of cross-culture materials
Supervision 20%Explain Language and cross-cultural trainers duties and responsibilitiesSelect, lead, supervise, evaluate and assess the language and cross-cultural trainers.Organize and provide evaluative feedback to trainees on progress in language and cross-cultural learningDesign a needs assessments to analyze learners’ needsEvaluate Trainees progress; coordinate and supervise language testing and conduct language interviewsObserve classes of language instructors and give feedback on their teachingDesign a system to evaluate learner’s progress and the effectiveness of the language and cross-cultural learningprogram.Prepare and submit to the Training Manager a written evaluation for the language trainers at the end of each PST
Safety and Security: 20% Addresses Volunteer safety and security by adhering to Peace Corps site development policies and procedures. Identifies and communicates Volunteer safety and security concerns and issues to the Training Manager, Safetyand Security Manager (SSM) and relevant staff. Assists TM and SSM to ensure that prospective training sites meet established programmatic and safety/securitycriteria (e.g., safe housing, a clearly defined assignment with an organization that shows real interest in workingwith a Volunteer, etc.). Monitors Trainees’ and Volunteers compliance with Peace Corps policies, especially related to safety andsecurity. Knowledgeable and supportive of Peace Corps safety and security policies and procedures, including the timelyreporting of suspicious incidents, persons or articles. Serve as Duty Officer as needed
Occasional Money HolderThe LCC may be required to courier cash and/or purchase orders to various vendors who furnish supplies and/orservices to training sites, or other locations as directed by the Contracting Officer. The LCC may also be required tocourier cash to PC Trainees or Volunteers. The LCC will not be functioning as a procurement or disbursing officialbut will only be acting as an intermediary between the Contracting or Disbursing Officer and the recipient. In the caseof dealing with vendors, the LCC will not exercise any procurement discretion concerning the supplies or services tobe purchased or the cost limits of these purchases; these will be determined by the Contracting Officer.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education: University Bachelor’s degree in Education, or related subject.Prior Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, preferably with American or otherinternational non-governmental organizations, and preferably organizations that achieve their mission throughvolunteerism. Related work experience to include: supervisory / leadership, designing and implementing training forgroups, delivery of language learning models, monitoring and evaluation, managing volunteers or staff, trainingsession design and delivery. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in supervising or coordinating staff.Language Proficiency: Fluency in both English and French. Excellent written and oral skills in English and French.
