Job OpportunitiesThe Government of Cameroon and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) have signed three Agreements for the financing of the Agricultural Infrastructure and Value Chain Development Project in Cameroon. project is aimed at developing the crop value chain of oil palm. cocoa, cassava and rice as well as rural infrastructure in the South West Region.The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on behalf of the Project Execution Agency is now seeking the services of dedicated result-oriented. competent. and organized Cameroonian professionals to till various positions in the Project Management Team (PMT) in Buea.
l. Title: Agronomist,Grade: Project Management Team memberStatus: Fixed Duration (60 months with possibilities of extension)In this position- the Agronomist will play a key role in the elaboration of a detail strategy for the implementation of all agricultural developrncnt and extension related interventions of the project. As such. he:she shall be the chief agricultural tcchnician of the project to drive adoption Of product innovation for project area selected crops. He.'she will be required to ensure the timely, effective and efficient implementation of all activities bearing on the production and distribution Of good quality seeds'plant.ng material. agricultural inputs (fertilizers. chemicals. etc) and farmers' advisory services. Specific duties and responsibilities shall include but not limited to the following:
Duties and ResponsibilitiesReport to the Project Manager/team leadcrPrepare and maintain an up to date detailed agricultural calendar for activities and ensure the active panicipation of relevant technical experts of the Project Management Team (PMT) in its timely and etTtcient implementation.Ensure timeliness and quality in the preparation of all training and extension material in the domain of agricultural production. this to include documents such as Terms Of References, extension/advisory manuals and brochures.Prepare Protocol Agreements with Implementation partners and beneficiary farmers• organizations relating to agricultural production activities.
Estimating and establishing cost parameters and budgets for agricultural production related procurements such as the production; acquisition and distribution Of various farm inputs and seeds.Making professional decisions in a fast-paced environmentReview and analyze all reports from consultants in the domain ofagricultural production.Ensure the quality of seeds, fertilizers, poly bags, planting material are ofa high quality Maintain and update list orbeneficiary farmers' organi7Äions, their location and key members.Identify training needs of the field staffof the Project, Implementation Partners and farmers at various levels and ensure the organization of the required trainings.•—In collaboration with the Capacity Building Consultant. develop training modules to cover the specials needs of and field workers, and carry out in-house refresher courses for farmers and the field agents.•—Contribute to the preparation of periodic project implementation reports and Project Completion Report.Skills Requirements and Ouajifieations• Post-graduation (Masters) in Agriculture (specializing in any of the following: Crop Production. Agricultural Exlension, Agricultural Economics, Soil Science and Crop Protection)• Solid knowledge and understanding ofthe farming systems ofthe tropics (rain forest/ savannah area) with demonstrable experience in the agronomy of the following crops: oil palm. cocoa. cassava. rain fed (upland) rice, plantains, ground nuts, citrus and potato. At least ten (10) years previous experience as an Agronomist or related position in a reputable organizationProficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel,PowerPoint, and Outlook)Accurate and precise attention to details Demonstrable ability to:• analyze problems and strategize for better solutions work in the field with Carmers under challenging conditions work well with management and staff at all levels multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently•r' work under pressure and traveling in rural areasExcellent verbal and written communication skills (ability to explain technical concepts in plain English) and a working knowledge of French.
