Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

The Senior Manager – Legal Affairs - Francophone Markets will provide strategic legal management for our French speaking markets.

Review, draft and negotiate critical contracts and legal documents.
Monitor and manage legal risks and legal disputes.
Act as the legal centre of excellence for best practice management.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPA's)

The Senior Manager – Legal Affairs - Francophone Markets will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:

Execute legal risk management and strategy.
Provide legal assistance to the various internal and external stakeholders.
Negotiate, draft, and implement legal agreements.
Negotiate various agreements inclusive of network infrastructure and submarine cable infrastructure, Master Services Agreements for telecoms companies.
Implement and execute legal operating model.
Manage and provide legal advice and opinions.
Effective drafting and reviewing of contracts from a qualitative perspective.
Excellent command of French at business level and ability to translate documents into and from business level French to ensure commercial intentions are well communicated.
Implementing best legal practice as per company policies.
Attend to all legal queries from various departments
Attend to any other task as assigned by the legal department.
Assistance with legal aspects of regulatory compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Job Requirements
(Education, Experience and Competencies)

Education

LLB or other recognized law degree in French/ Francophone jurisdiction
Admittance to a bar council
LLM will be advantageous to have
Fluent in French and practical knowledge of French commercial laws
Experience

Manager track record of 5 years or more with at least 3 years in relevant sector/ industry in French/ Francophone country.
Minimum of 8 years post qualification work experience in the following areas:
Commercial/Corporate law experience in a large local law firm or an international law firm.
Worked across diverse cultures and geographies but with a focus on French/Francophone markets.
Experience in telecommunications industry and telecoms infrastructure.
Competencies

In depth knowledge of laws and legal principles
In depth knowledge of the French/ Francophone legal environment especially as it relates to commercial matters, employment matters, telecommunications, and Technology.
Effective oral and written communications.
Working knowledge of business practices and IT tools for business.
