Position Overview: We are currently seeking an experienced Legal Officer to join our legal team. The successful candidate will provide expert legal counsel and support to various departments within the organization, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and guidance on a wide range of corporate legal matters, including contracts, agreements, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to protect the interests of the company and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to stay abreast of changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards that may impact the company's operations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including senior management, finance, operations, and procurement, to assess legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Manage legal disputes, litigation, and regulatory investigations, working closely with external counsel as necessary to resolve issues in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Assist in the development and implementation of corporate policies, procedures, and best practices to promote legal compliance and mitigate risk across the organization.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops for employees on legal topics relevant to their roles and responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of legal documents, correspondence, and case files.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Law from a recognized institution; additional qualifications such as a Master's degree or specialized training in corporate law are preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing corporate law, with a focus on commercial transactions, contract law, and regulatory compliance.
- Admission to the Bar in Cameroon or another jurisdiction; membership in professional legal associations is an asset.
- Fluent in both French and English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal issues and provide practical solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, with a proactive and results-oriented approach.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion, with a commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
