Job Description- Research Medical Officer - The Center for Health Promotion and Research
Background: The Center for Health Promotion and Research provides high-quality diagnostic services, undertakes
programs to strengthen health provision, and engages in research to increase knowledge and inform policy
change. We are currently implementing research projects and interventions to improve tuberculosis diagnosis.
Position summary: The Research Medical officer will work with an experienced team to implement research and
health service delivery activities. The Research Medical Officer reports to the Regional Program Coordinator. Full-
time position in Maroua, with ~5-15% travel to other regions.
Typical responsibilities and duties, depending on skill set:
• Assist to coordinate activities of team to ensure efficient, timely, and high-quality results
• Coordinate with Regional program coordinator and site medical staff to ensure appropriate care, follow-
up and documentation for people to be evaluated for TB
• Monitor key indicators, including quality/ quality indicators, for implementation activities
• Analyze data, interpret results, and prepare and contribute to reports and presentations
• Perform onsite and remote supervision of sites in collaboration with team and health staff, including
review of medical care of those evaluated as part of program activities
• Assist in project planning, review and implementation of study to ensure efficient, timely and high-quality
results
• Participate in the improvement of the program operational plan and carry out monthly updates
with the program management team
• Stay up-to-date with new and updated relevant protocols, research findings and best practices for
• Conduct literature searches and maintain citation databases
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external contacts to foster
effective work and future collaboration
• Participate in continuing education programs, workshops, and seminars as possible and build
capacity of other team members.
• Perform other duties as needed to ensure the success of the activities.
Qualifications:
• Education: Medical Doctor diploma
• At least 1 year work experience as Medical Doctor or in clinical work (may be during clinical training)
• Experience as a research clinician is preferable
• Strong interest and passion to work as part of team to improve public health
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, good working knowledge in French is an
advantage
• Ability to plan own work, set priorities and complete under pressure
• Excellent critical thinking skills
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and willingness to learn new programs as needed
• A high level of initiative and the ability to work independently
• Meticulous attention to detail and open to quality review of all work done
