Position Overview
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Lecturer to teach courses on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in humanitarian contexts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in humanitarian response, particularly in the sectors of water, sanitation, and hygiene, with hands-on experience in international organizations. This role involves teaching, mentoring, and engaging students on key topics related to the management of water and sanitation in crisis settings.
Key Responsibilities
1. Course Delivery:
● Deliver online lectures on topics related to water, sanitation, hygiene, and water resource management in humanitarian settings.
● Prepare, update, and align course materials according to curriculum goals and industry standards.
● Monitor student progress and provide academic support to ensure successful course completion.
2. Planning and Coordination:
● Contribute to the development of the course schedule and syllabus, ensuring all important themes are covered.
● Participate in regular academic planning meetings to improve the course offerings.
● Coordinate with other faculty members to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive learning experience for students.
3. Student Engagement:
● Supervise and guide students on assignments, projects, and research.
● Foster a collaborative online environment for peer-to-peer learning and better understanding of WASH issues in humanitarian contexts.
● Provide personalized feedback to support student academic development.
4. Practical Application:
● Provide real-world insights into WASH practices using case studies and examples from international organizations.
● Share field experiences and best practices to enrich the learning experience.
● Offer mentorship to students pursuing careers in WASH-related fields within humanitarian contexts.
5. Assessment and Feedback:
● Design and implement assessments to measure student understanding of course materials.
● Provide regular feedback on student progress through grades and written evaluations.
● Prepare and submit reports on course activities and student performance, and adjust course content as needed.
Qualifications
Education:
● Master's degree (Bac+5) in Water Management, Sanitation, Hygiene, Rural Development, or related field.
● Specialized certifications in humanitarian aid, WASH, or related fields are a plus.
Experience:
● At least 3 years of professional experience working in international humanitarian organizations or development agencies, specifically in WASH.
● Proven teaching experience, preferably in an online or distance learning environment.
● Field experience in water, sanitation, and hygiene projects in humanitarian contexts is highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies:
● Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage an online audience effectively.
● In-depth knowledge of humanitarian standards and WASH practices.
● Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Language Proficiency:
● Fluent in English (spoken and written). Knowledge of French is an advantage.
