Background
The Integrated Research Education and Support Group (IRES) is a Cameroon-based
organization committed to advancing research, education, and health system strengthening. Our

About the Internship Program
This internship offers a highly competitive opportunity for young, motivated Cameroonians to gain
practical experience in public health research, education, program implementation, and community
health systems strengthening and policy advocacy. Interns will work under the close guidance of
experienced public health professionals at IRES and contribute meaningfully to the organization's
strategic objectives.
The internship is designed to build professional capacity in the following areas:
• Public health research and scientific communication
• Public Health Program Management and leadership
• Health education and health Promotion
• Community engagement and mobilization
• Public and Community Health System Strengthening
• Monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL)
• Grant proposals, Strategic Partnerships and Sustainability of Public Health Programs.
Skills and Competencies to Be Acquired
By the end of the internship, selected interns will have developed the following skills and
competencies:
1. Understanding of public health research ethics and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) principles
and their practical application in research and program implementation.
2. Ability to support the development of research protocols and regulatory submissions,
including those required by national ethics committees.
3. Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, using tools such as
Epi Info, SPSS, STATA, R, CS Pro, and QDA Miner.
4. Scientific writing skills, including drafting research papers, abstracts, policy briefs, and
presentations for national and international audiences.
5. Knowledge of public health program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation,
using results-based management approaches.
6. Familiarity with community health systems and approaches to strengthening their
resilience and responsiveness.
7. Teamwork and leadership skills, including collaboration, coordination, and stakeholder
engagement in multi-disciplinary health projects.
8. Experience in developing health education and training materials, including content for
behavior change communication and community outreach.
9. Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities in addressing real-world public health
challenges and proposing programmatic improvements.
10. Professional communication and networking skills, gained through participation in
meetings, trainings, and knowledge-sharing events.
11. Skills in grant writing, fund raising and innovative financing, strategic partnership
development for sustainability
Eligibility and Qualifications
Education
• A Master’s degree (or ongoing final-year enrollment) in Public Health, Epidemiology,
Medicine, Social Sciences, Biostatistics, or a closely related field.
Skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Working knowledge of at least one statistical software (Epi Info, SPSS, STATA, or R).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Language
• English and French are IRES’s working languages.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential. Working knowledge of French is
an asset.
Internship Duration and Benefits
• The internship will last six (6) months.
• Based on performance and organizational needs, an extension may be considered.
• Selected interns will receive a monthly allowance to cover transportation and feeding
expenses.
