BACKGROUND
LifeAID is a non-profit organization that fosters youth centered development initiatives, peace, security and development. Its mandate is to catalyze peace, security and development processes in Africa.Our values are: Responsibility, Integrity, Impact, Accountability, Teamwork (RIIAT).
One of the key activities of LifeAIDis led by the Institute for Security and Policy Studies (ISPS) which is a Think Tank that conducts research, analysis and prospective studies as well as offers expertise in trainings and strategic security on Cameroon and Africa. To this end, it conducts studies that generate policy orientation in the advancement of science, political, security, economic, social and cultural transformations on the continent. With problem-solving as its main scientific focus, it serves as an aid to decision-making, training, information and the building of strategic awareness in Africa. Its ambition is to respond to the deep-rooted realities and aspirations of the people, in order to guarantee results that are close to reality and in phase with local needs and demand.
About The Communications Department
The Communication Department manages LifeAID’s external and internal communication and is charged with ensuring the visibility of LifeAID and its activities through the creation of quality content and visuals. The department is also charged with the drafting and implementation of LifeAID communication strategy, handling public relations, information output, press releases and media requests, social media, and email newsletters.
To this end, LifeAID is seeking a highly diligent, confident candidate with substantial management experience for the role of Communication Associate for the South West Regional Office in Buea.
Key responsibilities
Develop a cohesive communications strategy, control andmonitor the flow of information between LifeAID and the Public;
Determine the flow of marketing strategies, direct public relations campaigns and act as the face of LifeAID at media and other public relations events ;
Coordinate and participate in the writing or development of various contents, press releases, press kits and articles for the media, ensuring that LifeAID key messages are effectively conveyed;
Manage relations with the media, journalists and influencers, using your writing skills to establish professional and compelling communications;
Actively participate in the organization of media events and press conferences, producing the necessary communication materials with attention to detail;
Create engaging and original content for the LifeAID’s digital platforms (website, blog, social networks) to strengthen online presence and attract a wide audience;
Contribute to crisis management by collaborating with internal teams and drafting messages that are adapted and reassuring for stakeholders;
Moderates or master’s LifeAID’s events;
Coordinate and feed the different communications platforms;
Cultivate an environment of readiness and alertness;
Maintain an awareness of LifeAID risks and threats;
Drafting communications strategies and budgets;
Ensure quality control of all information released;
Assist in the capacity building of the communications team;
Analyze the performance of communication actions and draw up periodic reports with a clear and concise presentation of results.
Propose partnerships and collaborations by leveraging your writing skills for compelling, clearly articulated proposals.
Key Qualifications and Skills
MBA or advanced degree in Communications, Marketing or related field;
At least 2-3 year’s working experience in a communications field;
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French is required;
Awareness of and proficiency with communications technologies;
Experience in stakeholder/community engagement;
Clear and concise communication with team members and senior management;
Strong, confident and collaborative leadership;
Good understanding of the importance of social media and be comfortable editing and posting in social media formats;
Substantive understanding of policy issues and trends in the area of communication;
Must be able to work independently against deadlines;
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Experience working with civil society organizations is an advantage.
