Regional Agriculture Officer

Summary
Nascent Solutions is seeking a qualified and dedicated Agriculture professional to support the
USDA-funded International Food for Education and Child Nutrition project. The Agriculture Officers
will work under the supervision of the Regional Field Coordinator to support the agriculture and
food security component of the project in their designated region.

to enable vulnerable people, especially women and children in rural Africa, to develop skills for
self-sufficiency. The organization focuses on food security and nutrition, health, literacy and skills
development, and gender equity.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Sensitize communities, PTAs, teachers, and students on the importance of school gardens
• Work with community and traditional leaders to identify land for school gardens
• Develop an action plan with each school for establishing a school garden with specific
roles, responsibilities, and timelines for crucial gardening activities
• Train teachers, PTAs, students, and community associations on improved cultivation
techniques for greater productivity
• Provide training on climate agriculture techniques post-harvest loss reduction
• Ensure proper handling and storage of inputs and equipment
• Coordinate all gardening activities, including plot measurement, staking, layout, mapping,
seedbed preparation, planting, plot care, pollination, and harvesting and storage
• Organize regular visits to the schools to provide technical assistance and ensure proper
application of new knowledge and skills
• Work with an M&E Specialist to establish and implement a data collection system
• Document project success with photos/videos and at least two success stories each year
• Participate in the review of semiannual and annual reports to USDA
• Perform other duties as appropriate
• Prepare and submit project reports and develop annual performance plans
Qualifications required
• A higher diploma in agronomy from an accredited Institution
• Demonstrated mastery of climate-smart agricultural technologies
• Demonstrated experience working with community-based groups
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills
• Demonstrated expertise in training
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Willingness to work under difficult circumstances
• Knowledge of computer word-processing programs and spreadsheets is a prerequisite
• Knowledge of the local languages will be an added advantage
• Excellent knowledge of English and French (will be tested)
