Job Description
Overview of Role:
Global Conservation Cameroon Programme is currently expanding its activities by engaging
communities in TRIDOM landscapes in positive conservation actions. This includes developing
collaborative methods with local communities to support sustainable management of natural
resources and protect against poaching and other illegal activities impacting forest communities.
The post holder will work under the direct supervision of the Central Africa Director
Main responsibilities
Work alongside relevant team members to implement GC’s programme of work to
engage and empower local communities to promote conservation.
The post holder is responsible for supporting the establishment and consolidation of a
network of VSLA (village savings and loans association) groups in communities across
GC landscapes.
Train and provide ongoing support to partner communities in the use of VSLA, field
data collection, monitoring and reporting techniques and develop NTFP value-additionchains as appropriate.
Support the expansion of Community Surveillance Networks (CSN) to allow a safe and
secure method to give intelligence on Illegal wildlife trade.
Design and implement appropriate and on-going socio-economic studies (including
baseline, midterm and end project) to guide project activities and monitor and evaluate
project outcomes.
Ensure media coverage of GC activities as required.
Other Responsibilities:
Ensure the successful implementation of project activities and the timely delivery of all
project outputs as agreed with the line manager;
With direction from Director, develop collaborations with partners – local communities,
academic institutions, government agencies and NGOs – as appropriate to ensure the
effective implementation of the programme.
Ensure regular consultation and feedback with partners to review the programme and
adapt if necessary.
Manage budgets (bookkeeping) and activity/ indicator reporting and contribute to
technical reporting. Ensure that all activities are carried out within budget

commitments and with regular, timely and accurate reporting in accordance with
GC/funder procedures;
Maintain and develop good relations with other relevant stakeholders including
amongst others; private sector partners, Cameroonian authorities, local and
international NGOs, local communities and research institutions;
General
Undertake appropriate administrative tasks;
Comply with the relevant GC policies;
Maintain safe workplace practices and procedures in accordance with internal health and
safety legislation, GC Health and Safety guidelines and any relevant Cameroonian legal
requirements;
Any other duties commensurate with the post as agreed with line manager.
The position will be based in Djoum/Mintom or Lomie with regular travel to Yaoundé
Person specification:
Qualifications and experience
A Bachelor’s degree, or preferably higher in social sciences, environmental sciences or any
other related subject;
At least 3 years’ professional experience in a relevant field;
Experience of working in a multi-cultural/ international environment;
Experience implementing projects/activities with local communities with varying range of
social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds;
Experience with VSLA, IGA and/or NTFP training and management;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French essential with English language
and written skills highly desirable;
Environmentally aware: An interest and understanding of conservation and environmental
issues.
